Of Debris Removed
An incredible community effort brought together 54 volunteers, including individuals, schools, and partner organizations, for BERI’s International Coastal Clean-up at Smith’s Point.
Together, we removed 827 pounds of garbage and marine debris from the coastline, demonstrating the impact of collective action and community stewardship.
FROM WASTE, WE CREATE! 2026 Award Ceremony & Eco-Art Exhibition

Celebrating the inaugural season of FROM WASTE, WE CREATE!, BERI brought together artists, students, families, and community partners for an evening dedicated to creativity and environmental stewardship.
The exhibition showcased original artworks and sculptures created from reclaimed materials, demonstrating how discarded resources can be reimagined through art. The winning artwork, A Turtle’s Tail by Aiden K. Rahming, received a $1,000 cash prize, while Bishop Michael Eldon School (BMES) was awarded $1,000 as the winner of the GB School Clean-up Challenge, supporting its Eco-Club.

BNT National Parks Day — Rand Nature Centre, Grand Bahama

Hosted by the Bahamas National Trust (BNT), National Parks Day brought the community together to celebrate and support the vital work BNT does to protect The Bahamas’ national parks, ecosystems, and natural heritage.
BERI joined the day with a Reclaimed Materials Exhibition highlighting FROM WASTE, WE CREATE!, alongside our interactive litter display, which sparked conversations with visitors about waste, marine debris, and the materials we leave behind.
We also invited Lucaya International School (LIS) to showcase its Collaborative Science Project, creating another opportunity for meaningful environmental dialogue, and welcomed local artist Veronica Ellis, whose extraordinary fashion pieces transform reclaimed aluminum cans, can tabs, and other discarded materials into wearable art. Together, we helped coordinate an eco-fashion show celebrating creativity, resourcefulness, and reuse.
It was a wonderful day of environmental education, art, science, and community engagement. All in support of BNT and the important work they do to protect the natural places that make our islands so extraordinary.
